Sparsha started its journey 25 years ago by educating children of migrant workers on pavements and has since evolved to provide integrated child and community development.
Sparsha model requires it to work in an integrated manner with communities, children and their parents. Sparsha’s team, therefore, consists of a good mix of teachers, community workers (animators) and volunteers, many of them from the communities themselves.
A graduate from SNDT College in Child Development and Care, Sarika Desai has also worked with NASEOH and Sulbha School for mentally challenged children. She chose to focus on the lives of underprivileged children after learning of certain disturbing situations in their lives, and went on to complete her post graduation on Masters in Social Work at Nirmala Niketan College, Mumbai.
She has been working relentlessly for the underprivileged for the past 25 years and lays strong emphasis on all-round development of children through their education and rights-based advocacy. She has led Sparsha to become an influencing force and important voice in a multitude of communities, making a difference to tens of thousands of children
